Michelle Baron sat on the edge of the couch, her heart racing as she looked at the envelope in her hand. I guess this is it, she thought. The return address seemed harmless enough. Fairfield Lab, Portland, Oregon. But this envelope contained information that could change her life forever. Michelle and her family rejoice when her father begins to regain consciousness after an unsuccessful suicide attempt. But a long journey awaits, as they seek to clear his name of the embezzlement charges that drove him to this desperate act. The days of their vigil at the hospital drag into weeks, and Michelle finds herself repeatedly drawn to the newborn nursery. Observing couples leave with tiny babes in their arms, her heart is stirred, and she begins to yearn for a child of her own. However, an unexpected twist will threaten her new dream. Through the Tears -- the second novel in the Sandy Cove series -- delivers a message of hope in the midst of longing and disappointment.

Through the Tears Sandy Cove Series Volume 2 Rosemary Hines 9781542567961 Books

I had never heard of author Rosemary Hines until I saw the first book in the Sandy Cove Series, Out of a Dream, on Bookbub. After reading the description, I knew that I wanted to read it. I could not put it down and of course I bought the second book in the series, Through the Tears, the day I finished the first book.

The second book was just as amazing as the first.
Rosemary Hines tackles difficult subjects - suicide, disabilities, infertility, abortion, new age beliefs, and the fear of kidnapping - all in one novel. Through the Tears will bless you again and again.

As a Christian I have recently felt distant from GOD. I truly believe that these books were put in my path for a reason. The books have taken me to a place where I have begun to focus more on God and trust him in everyday situations.

I have now purchased book 3, Into Magnolia, of the series. Thank you GOD and Rosemary Hines for her talent as a writer.

As the second story in this series, I was so happy that through it all Michelle did not lose her faith. This writer also shows that their are options to abortion, but I would also point out that orphanages are not always a wonderful place for children. Adoptions are not always the happily ever after that some would like to believe. Unfortunately many people fail to take that into consideration when creating stories. They want to believe so that is the way their stories are told.
The second in a series, and not sure why I picked it up after the first - perhaps because the setting is where I live and I too, am a California transplant, as is the main character. Unfortunately, she remains quite selfish, which does not make her sympathetic at all, and she is just too annoying in her whinyness to come across as "real." She does not appreciate her wonderful and hard working husband, jerks him around, almost fools around, then obsesses about having a baby after only a few months of trying. The writing is certainly adequate, but the plot leans toward the unbelievable, then falls entirely into the predictable. At best, this series may provide a decent light read for naive young Christian women, but will likely disappoint the reader of substance.
A book that is all about wanting to have a baby and several ways of accomplishing that desire. Steve and Michelle seem to draw close and then draw apart as each of them become obsessed with their feelings on becoming parents. Michelle appears to be trying to force herself to become pregnant, going to fertility clinics and etc. Steve is not really sold on the whole thing. The cast of characters in this book you either love and try to understand, or hate and wish they would disappear. Those close to Michelle I would like to know more about and meet then again in other novels.
This book gives understanding of how people struggle with the whole idea of pregnancy, of being responsible for another life, and the ups and downs they go through as they seek to become adjusted to what is happening, or what needs to be done.
I had read four other books in the Sandy Cove series but had missed this one. I was glad to fill in the story, even though missing this one had not reduced my pleasure in reading the others.

I like that the author tackles tough subjects like suicide and infertility and that she writes from a Christian worldview.

The only reason I didn't give the book 5 stars is that I thought both Michelle and Steve were overly dramatic and self-centered his infertility and their artificial insemination. I understand the pain of infertility--my husband had the very same issue as Steve. Our only child was adopted at age 11 because 50 years ago, we didn't have many options. We had both hoped to have a baby (naturally or through adoption), and we were saddened when that didn't happen. But we didn't react the way Steve and Michelle did in their situation.
This was tough to read for a couple of reasons. The opening scene indicates a problem that seemed to have come about in the usual wrong way, so I was on edge waiting for that to happen. It turns out I was wrong about my predictions and it happened a different way, but still, it was a story filled with watching an immature young woman making decisions outside of her husband and experiencing the conflict that followed. Not fun. It seemed she just barely just made it to the end intact. She kept making bad decisions about who she associated with and it was frustrating to see the lack of discernment on her part. The story was long and wordy to me. There was so much detail that I started skipping over sections to get to the heart of the story. I did appreciate having my eyes opened to what New Agers might be able to accomplish through their own form of prayers. Wow. I never though of those possibilities. There is some educational value here, both for that and the great Christian concepts expressed that will benefit the reader.
I absolutely loved this book. I had a hard time putting it down. I took my when my husband and I had to travel any distance and read in the car, walking on the treadmill, and even when I would sit down to relax (usually picking up my computer to check my FB) I would read this book. I knew what the prolog to the story read, but I didn't know how it was going to end. I love it when I can't figure out the ending of a story...many books I figure it out when I am a few chapters into it. I can relate to the infertility problem as my son and daughter in law had to deal with this. After 3 miscarriages, they chose a fertility clinic and went through a procedure similar to Michelle's. I have twin grandsons on the first try. So many tears were shed before this happened and many prayers sent in their behalves. I highly recommend this book.
